Leftover workers can gather the steam core for wall drill. Put workers on newly-built gathering post. (My memory gets a bit hazier at this point.) I'm not sure if I started researching heaters or jumped immediately to tier 2, but as soon as you get enough wood you should research wall drill. Scouts should not return until they find canning workshop. Turn sick workers into scouts, send out hunters. Build 3rd gathering post north (can't avoid hitting the steam core deposit this time). One engineer will die, so pull another one from the medical tent. Research hunting tactics once beacon is done.īuild beacon, hunter's hut. At most 15 workers on steel, then the rest on wood. When first wave arrives, turn off cookhouse so they will go to work instead of eat. Fully populate gathering posts, all remaining workers on steel. 3 in infirmary-prioritize research, will get more engineers for medical posts soon. At 2AM, emergency shift the wood gathering post.ġ person in cookhouse, remove when done cooking. Tear up roads as necessary to get more wood. If prompted, only agree to house half the people. Build cookhouse anywhere, will get torn down later. Build two gathering posts, one to gather wood only (far east) and one to gather steel and wood only (southwest).

Turn on generator every night, with overdrive, at least until the situation stabilizes. Should end day with 10~11 steel and as much wood as possible. Place 6 children on steel, all other citizens on wood. Should get 5 steel around 8:41 AM, tear up roads to get 15 wood, then build workshop.

Once you clear the hurdle of the first few days, the game becomes much, much easier.Ĭhild labor, all workers on steel. This is necessary to rush outposts and become self-sufficient as soon as possible.

If you don't care about deathless, abuse the heck out of emergency shifts on research. The other outpost is randomly wood or coal and to the north, in both cases definitely worth setting up ASAP. You generally want to scout to the west and south to find canning workshop / fishing village.

Canning workshop will last you several days while you research outpost teams, and once you get the outpost up and running, it's 100 free raw food per day. Likewise you can position the southern post to gather steel and wood.Īdditionally, if you time things correctly, you don't need to build more than 2 or 3 hunter's huts, which are a huge drain on workers early. So if you look at the map, you can actually move your easternmost gathering post further east and north so that it gathers wood exclusively, instead of 1/3 wood, 1/3 coal, 1/3 steam cores. The problem with gathering posts is that while they double each worker's efficiency, they allocate workers evenly amongst all types of resources within the working radius.

During the first few days you should gather wood and steel, ignoring coal completely. I really don't know what else to try.įrom the screenshot: Your gathering post positioning is inefficient. These refugees are all alive and have the basic necessities - they don't know how good they have it given the circumstances!Īny suggestions for getting past the initial hurdles here? I considered rushing faith to drop discontent, but then resources become so scarce I don't have enough food, wood, or steel to keep the city functioning, let alone spend extra on faith buildings. I am deposed despite doing literally everything possible that I can think of to keep resources, heat, and illness as efficient as possible and keeping everyone alive. Still, by day 9 I'm barely keeping people alive (no deaths, but with 90 sick and capacity to treat only 30 at a time, a death wave was imminent) and I'm barely keeping the generator running (somewhat by choice, although the sick absences lead to the generator shutting down in my final minutes). I used zero emergency shifts and only ran the gathering posts and workshops on extended shift (they were off on this screenshot, wasn't enough to drop discontent). In this particular run I had plenty of food - except people weren't eating it at the end for some reason - plenty of shelter until the most recent refugee wave, as many medical posts as I could afford in wood, coal, and engineers, soup for folks instead of food additives to limit the sick, and no severe laws such as triage or corpse disposal. I've been trying to get past the first 10 days of Refugees on extreme mode, and no matter what I try I just can't seem to keep discontent low enough to avoid being deposed.
